Maptek - Vulcan (MME)

Important Notes:

  • To request access to the Maptek Vulcan software, submit a Service Request Ticket with your full name, VT PID, and course requiring access to the software.  Once you have been added to the MME Maptek software account system, you will receive an email from Maptek titled Confirm Your Account at your Virginia Tech email account.  Once you receive the email, click on the Set up My Password link in the email.
  • If you do not set up the password within seven days, you will need to submit another Service Request Ticket to request a password reset.  Once you have set up your account, you can access your account information and Vulcan software download through the Maptek online system at https://account.maptek.com/auth/account/login.
  • MME Computer Lab: The Maptek - Vulcan software is installed on the computer systems within the MME computer lab (Holden Hall 221) .

Installation Instructions:

  1. Go to the Downloads page within your Maptek online account, click on the Details button next to the Vulcan 2024 icon, and click the Download Vulcan icon to download the installer.
  2. Once the Maptek_Vulcan_2024.2_790.exe is downloaded, right-click the installer to Run as administrator, then click Yes.
  3. Within the Maptek Workbench Software End User License Agreement window, after reviewing the agreement, mark the I accept the terms in the license agreement checkbox if you agree with the terms, then click the Install button.
  4. The Setup Progress window will appear, displaying the installation progress.
  5. When the Installation Successfully Completed window appears, then click Close.  You must restart the computer system to complete the first phase of the installation, before restarting make sure to save open files and close running programs, then click Restart.
  6. Upon logging back into your user account, the Vulcan software will continue the 2nd phase of the installation process, finish with another Installation Successfully Completed window, and then click Close.
  7. Double-click the Maptek Vulcan 2024 icon on your desktop or go to Windows Start -> Maptek -> Maptek Vulcan 2024.
  8. Once Maptek Vulcan 2024 is open, select OK for the Set Vulcan Home Directory, then select the Already have a Maptek Account button.
  9. A secondary window should appear, enter your VT email address into the Email field and the recently created Maptek account password into the Password field, then select the Sign In button.
  10. The first time logging in, you will need to review and agree to the Agree to the New Terms and Conditions window by clicking on the checkbox next to I have read and agree to the Terms and Conditions.
  11. If you enabled two-factor authentication, that code will need to be entered to continue.
  12. Next, locate the large blue Vulcan icon in the top-middle of the screen.  Below the blue icon is the number 2024.3, and a square icon with green arrows forms a circle next to it.  Click on the green arrow icon.
  13. Upon opening the green arrow icon, select the Maptek Account License option.  The Maptek Account License Tool window should appear, select the GeostatModeller option on the left-hand side of the window, then select all the products on the right-hand side of the window to include 3D Geological Sculpting, Level Designer, Mine Design OC, Mine Design UG, Pit Optimiser, and Stope Optimiser, then click OK.
  14. A successful connection message will be found under the Vulcan Console tab at the bottom of the screen.  The Vulcan Console tab should display a message like Looking for connection on 65050, Connection established!.  If you cannot get successful, please submit a Service Request Ticket and put in the error message.
