SolidWorks (MME & MSE)
Description
SolidWorks is a solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) computer program.
License
- License expires July 31
- Available to faculty, staff, and graduate assistants at no cost for instructional use only.
- Research licensing is available. Please contact ITPALS for more info at http://software.vt.edu/help.
- Graduate students without an Engineering assistantship will need to purchase a SolidWorks license from Software Sales.
- Undergraduate students who purchased the Engineering software bundle before Fall 2019 will need to purchase a SolidWorks license from Software Sales.
Access and Installation
Classwork Use
- Faculty and graduate students using for teaching must request access from http://software.vt.edu/help.
- All Engineering undergraduate students who arrived in 2019 or later should already have access as part of your software bundle. Visit the Software Download Site for installation files and instructions.
- Undergraduate students who purchased the Engineering software bundle before Fall 2019 will need to purchase a SolidWorks license from Software Sales.
- Graduate students without an Engineering assistantship will need to purchase a SolidWorks license from Software Sales.
Research Use
- Faculty, staff, and students using for research will need to purchase a license. Submit requests at http://software.vt.edu/help.
Lab Use
- If your lab is for instructional/classwork use, then you should be fine installing the education license at no cost.
- If your lab is for research, then you will need to purchase the appropriate research license.
- Submit requests for lab usage to http://software.vt.edu/help.
Download and Install
- Once you have access, visit the Software Download Site for installation files and instructions.

- If this is a VT-owned system, contact your IT Department for assistance.
- If this is a personal system, contact the SWAT Office for assistance.
